Academic Achievements:

Development of new techniques accepted worldwide

Seminal invention or adaptation of a previous technology

Introduction of new treatment modalities

Elucidating the etiology of a disease state

Reassessment of previous findings, resulting in a significant shift in treatment

Establishment of new standards of quality care in Ophthalmology

Significant advancement in eye care worldwide

Achieving a significant position at an academic institution

Authority for a particular field of study

 

Humanitarian Achievements:

Continuous demonstration of a strong commitment to the public

An established community leader

Seen as a spokesperson for public and social well-being

Brought about change to a societal ill

 

SELECTION:

All Ophthalmologists and vision scientists can nominate an individual

A letter of nomination should include the name, current position, a short biography of the candidate, and the reason behind the nomination

Awards Committee will select 5 candidates to be presented to the Board

Board and Awards Committee chair will vote for award recipient to be honored at the following AAO or ARVO meeting
